Dan worked on the headboard almost all day on Saturday and a good part of Sunday. I had a cranky baby and didn't think it was a good idea for us to stay in the garage with all those fumes! The bed is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! But.... we have a little problem. Let me just show you:
(Please over look all the clutter on our bedside tables. I am not an organized person.)
So.... yea, you can't even see the headboard it's so low. I googled sleigh beds on the Internet and there are actually a lot of them out there that aren't high up. The headboard and footboard (haven't done the footboard yet) have slots in them to attach to rails that hold the bed up. I'm thinking maybe we shouldn't do the footboard and just find a way to elevate the headboard without attaching it to the bed maybe? What do y'all think? It's just too beautiful to leave behind those pillows!
Here's proof:
Didn't the Danman do a fantastic job?! Here is a reminder at what he started with:

You can attach it directly to the wall if you want to raise it up somewhat, although since it is curved wood, make sure your back would be comfortable leaning against it.
I think the finish turned out fabulous! Danman did a great job!
Oh, I think definitely do the footboard. They don't have to be the same height, but I love our footboard. It helps all our sheets and blankets stay on the bed, and just helps the bed look finished.
I know you posted these just for me! Right? LOL. Thanks!
Wow--those turned out great. Yes...if you can elevate them somehow...that would be great.
He did a great job! I've tried refinishing things before and it never turned out well so I'm very impressed. I'm sure he can find a way to raise it - I guess that might be hard to attached to the bed - or attach it to the wall, but it looks beautiful.
Great job, Dan!!!
